Just a quick note: probably partially due to the decline in quality of the Thin Man films as the series progressed, fewer GIF-worthy moments occur as we get further into the series. If you are a fellow Nick and Nora lover, you can click any appropriate tags and you'll find an enormous amount of GIFs of them, so I'm sure something will tickle your fancy even if it doesn't belong to this particular little post, or the ones that come after this.

We all know I'm a sucker for lighthearted, fast-paced romcoms of the 1930s, so of course I've got this movie in my collection. Also, as a side note, I don't understand people who hate Robert Benchley. Some of his shorts still have me rolling after having seen them multiple times.

I don't want to be a good girl. What does that get you? I want life and love. I want you.Collapse )

To keep going with my posting of GIFs of the only Nick and Nora that will EVER matter, chronologically!

These are from the full, uncut version, not the theatrical version. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone was wondering where certain shots came from and only have seen the 1933 theatrical release version. :)

Yeah, I'm a tramp. And who's to blame? My father. A swell start you gave me. Ever since I was fourteen, what has it been? Nothing but men. Dirty, rotten men. And you're lower than any of them.Collapse )

Just another installment of The Thin Man series, this time with an appearance from my beloved (and young!) Jimmy Stewart alongside my favorite on-screen couple ever. Could there be a more perfect film? And this is before the series went downhill. So good.

'I suppose we ought to decide where we're going.' 'Why? Do you care?' 'No... but I haven't any clothes.' 'What's the difference? Saves you the trouble of packing. And I don't need anything in the world, darling, but you... and a toothbrush.'Collapse )

I am not a Fred and Ginger fanatic, but I do know that if I'm feeling sad, there are several Fred and Ginger films I can put on and it'll make me peppy and happy. I think other than maybe Swing Time and Top Hat, The Gay Divorcee is my favorite film they did together. The dialog is a bit sharper than it is in so many Fred and Ginger scripts to me and it's also so lighthearted throughout that you just can't help but smile. I also think Alice Brady is super cute in everything; she's one of my favorite parts of My Man Godfrey. I haven't ever gotten my hands on any of the silent films she was in, but I'd like to see her more in her youth so maybe I'll try to get some soon.

Anyway! GIFs!

A while back when I had more free time, I marathoned my Thin Man DVD series over the course of a few days and these are the resulting GIFs.

It should be known that I have long been a Nick and Nora stan, as well as a William Powell and Myrna Loy stan. (Both separately and together, really. Myrna is always at the top of my female list because she was not just a fantastic actress with excellent timing and lots of elegance, but also was an intelligent and incredible person who fought for racial equality, women's rights, and other such wonderful causes that not a whole lot of very popular actresses or actors got too deeply into. Go read up on her if you haven't yet. Go!)

'I read where you were shot 5 times in the tabloids.' 'It's not true! He didn't come anywhere near my tabloids.'Collapse )

First of all, oop@me. I have 8 entries that I marked as private rather than everyone and they are all full of various GIFs. I always post private first so I can check to make sure my HTML is okay before I ruin people's friend pages or something, but clearly, I have been an idiot and have forgotten to go back and open them up to the world. I'm about to do that right now, so if you are here for GIFs, check back a few entries and take things if you like them.

Okay, now Libeled Lady GIFs. :) Hilarious movie, flawless cast, etc.

This is love, not liquor.Collapse )

Finally, I got asked this question a couple of times recently, so I'm putting this here in case it helps someone just passing through my journal: unless I state otherwise, I make all my GIFs by using my own DVD for the shots, and record my screen using Screenflow (which is a Mac program that I highly recommend if you want a good piece of software for giffing). I then convert and edit them in Photoshop. So there you go.

I came home last night after a somewhat unpleasant day and headed straight for my DVD collection with watching this movie in mind. Such a fun movie, every single time.

Heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak, and I seem to find the happiness I seek when we're out together dancing cheek to cheek.Collapse )

As my post from a while ago tonight would indicate, I LOVE Clue, but if I was only allowed to watch either Clue or Murder By Death (movies with VERY similar occurrences, though each movie is still quite different), I'd choose the latter. It's essentially perfect. The comedy is still clever, the references to great detectives from literature, TV shows, and movies alike are sharp, and the acting is excellent. It's packed with an AMAZING cast. If you like Clue and haven't yet seen Murder By Death, I'd suggest you go do it.

Anyway! GIFs.

'Up there, Dora, look... a blind butler!' 'Don't let him park the car, Dickie.'Collapse )
